A film from the collaboration of Donna and Mark Turner based on part of a scripture which inspired Donna to write a song. The song is written in the style of Taizé chants, a meditative music form originated in the Taizé Community in France. Photos by both Mark and Donna of the spring bloom in the Borrego Desert, California, remind us of the Desert Fathers and Mothers of the fourth century.
The Taizé Community draws people from all over the world to experience this type of worship. To use this song in your own faith community, or alone, you might sing it much longer than the video, allowing the words to sink deeply into your soul. In a group, people may improvise with their voice or instruments. Then leave a space of silence after the music ends.
“Let This Mind Be in You” comes from Philippians 2:5 in the King James version of the Bible. Other versions refer to “mind” as attitude, or mindset. Whatever you call it, Jesus took on the attitude of a servant.
Philippians 2
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus: 6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God: 7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men: 8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
