What are we reflecting?

I watched this cloud as the sun was going down, with the light moving across different clouds and changing colors. I’m no scientist, and I don’t know why the colors change, but I know that the clouds need to be in the right place to achieve the best reflection and beauty.
Back in the day, I worked on a video crew, and one of my jobs was holding the reflector. It’s quite a technique – you have to know where the light is coming from and exactly what it should illumine.
So, the highest clouds are the ones that catch the light the longest. This made me wonder, what can I do to “get up high” so I can reflect the light? It’s so easy to get discouraged with current events these days (Fall 2026) and discover that we are reflecting the “dark side.”
Here are some practices I am testing out to keep in the light.
- Get outside every day, breathe the fresh air, even if it is very hot or very cold.
- Actually look at each person you encounter, make eye contact, and smile to remind them that they matter.
- Try singing, even just in your own house. Find a song on YouTube and sing along, or hum as you do your daily walking. Whistling even counts. This has been found to benefit the brain, besides making you feel lighter.
- Read something positive every day, and spend a little time thinking about it.
- Pray, meditate, do intentional breathing, and other spiritual practices.
Some Scriptures that Help Me
Matthew 5:16 ...let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.
II Samuel 22:29 You are my lamp, O Lord; the Lord turns my darkness into light.
II Corinthians 4:6 For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness, made his light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Christ.”
