What do you see?
When I was walking through the forest, I noticed this crazy log out of the corner of my eye. After walking past it, I had to turn around and take a photo. We all need to keep our eyes open for glimpses of humor around us. What does it look like to you? It made me think of a giant lizard, but it could be a bird. No matter what it looks like, it made me smile.
Look away, and then look back at the photo. What does it look like now?
Exercise in Seeing
- Find how many objects are green.
- List other colors you see.
- Imagine what that log looked like before it was on the ground.
- Where is the light shining? Where is it coming from?
- What other look-alikes do you see besides the main log?
- Think about the life-cycle of trees and what growth stages you see here.
I especially liked looking for how many colors are in there. Your first impression might be quite different than the final count.
This is not simply a test of your observational skills. It’s an exercise in meditating on your surroundings. Let what you see in Creation open your spiritual eyes to see more.
No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him, but God has revealed it to us by his Spirit. I Corinthians 2:9,10
